Why insect breeding?

The current world population is approaching 8 billions and it is forecasted to reach 9.8 billions by 2050. Providing the required protein for this population using the classical and traditional methods is unfeasible. On the other hand, more than 40% of solid urban waste are green and bio-waste which is not recyclable by metalogical methods.

This part of the waste is usually landfilled that may make the underground water contaminated. The landfilling will make a unpleasant and unhealth conditions for the neighbors and emission some toxic gas as well.

Insects and specially Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) are talent organisms for bioconversion of the this type of the wastes in a high ecological and environmental-friendly way. The bioconversion rate, growth and body compositions, the industry-demanded traits, is partially controlled by genetic effect and can be improved by selection programs.
